"Favorite Fairy Tales Told in Czechoslovakia" retold by Virginia Haviland, illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman (1966)

TRINA SCHART HYMAN (1939 - 2004) illustrated over 150 books during her long career, including fairy tales and Arthurian legends. She received the 1985 Caldecott Medal for Saint George and the Dragon and was awarded Caldecott Honors three times. During the 1970s she developed a reputation as a talented and versatile illustrator for the children's magazine Cricket. Later she provided art for tales by such noted writers as Hans Christian Andersen, Mark Twain, and John Updike.

"Favorite Fairy Tales Told in Scotland" retold by Virginia Haviland, illustrated by Adrienne Adams (1963)

ADRIENNE ADAMS (1906 - 2002) illustrated more than 30 children's books ranging from texts by contemporary authors to the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen and the Brothers Grimm. She worked primarily in full color, using tempera, gouache, watercolor or crayon. She won two Caldecott Honors, in 1960 for Houses from the Sea and 1962 for The Day We Saw the Sun Come Up. These two books, as well as four others she illustrated for Scribners (The Shoemaker and the Elves and Jorinda and Joringel by the Brothers Grimm, Thumbelina by Hans Christian Andersen, and Bring a Torch, Jeannette, Isabella, a Provencal carol) were selected as ALA Notable Books. In 1964 she received the Alumnae Achievement Award from Stephens College, and in 1973 she received the Rutgers Award for overall contributions to children's literature. She was awarded the University of Southern Mississippi's Medallion in 1977.
